Two Design Artists and Two Lessons.

Jon Kay is a T-shirt designer. He has created polo shirts for the website Fangamer.net. Most of his designs are very simplistic, but work well with the polo shirt. Polo shirts have a few buttons at the top of the shirt that creates a v- neck she it is not buttoned. The shirts also have a logo. The placement and size of the logo become important when considering what people will wear and if it will be bought. In addition there is also color combination. Jon Kay makes his shirts have a single solid color and the logo matching the colors of the symbol or logo of the game bing represented.

Lesson Idea: Through designing their own logo and placing it on a t-shirt, using adobe illustrator, a t-shirt, a vinyl cutting, and an iron, students will learn that technology can help them plan out a t-shirt and that they can wear and show off what they create with the rest of the world by wearing it.

Idea does not have to include the digital world, but can be use with fabric paint or silkscreens. The students can also design their art with a piece of paper if the school is low tech.
Students will be taught about how to think about placement of their artwork on the t-shirt as well.

Henry Egloff is a multimedia artist based in Australia. He designs websites, logos, and identities for corporations. He is also known for his images of animals and the break down of them into simpler shapes and designs.
Lesson Idea: Through observing a stuffed bird or animal, using photoshop or adobe illustrator, Students will learn that an three dimensional object can be put on a 2- dimensional plane and have its shape changed to simple geometric shapes.
